These translators support many of the latest versions of major CAD file formats, allowing users to convert 3D models from those formats to a PDF file. Among the updated file formats supported are those for Dassault Systemes CATIA, PTC Pro/ENGINEER, SolidWorks and UGS NX and I-deas. The company also reports that Adobe Reader users can view product structure and, when enabled by Acrobat 3D, have the ability to use commenting, measurement and cross-section tools directly on 3D objects in PDF files.”

個人向けには、まだVistaは発売されていませんが、Vistaのベータ版やXPや2003でもいろいろなソフトをインストールすれば、WPFコンテンツが開発できます。
WPFには、ローカルで動作するアプリケーションと、ブラウザ上で動作するアプリケーションの二つがあり、ブラウザ版はセキュリティの関係からいくつか使えない機能もあるようです。さらに、ユーザーはノンプラグインでコンテンツを閲覧できます。
WPF用のGUIは、xaml(ザムル)というxmlベースのフォーマットで記述できるので、デザイナーはxamlを、プログラマーはVisual Studio2005でC#などの言語でプログラミングする分業が可能です。
xamlでは、Flash風の2Dアニメーションだけでなく、3Dオブジェクト・アニメーションデータも記述できます。
さらに、デザイン・モデリング・アニメーション・プログラミングなど、全て無料のツールだけで開発することも可能です。”

InnovationJam will involve 10 projects, including web 2.0, enterprise tools, supercomputing visualisation to display supercomputing data graphically, and console processors such as Xbox’s 360. “The ultimate goal of the project is to create an environment where users can seamlessly navigate between 3D worlds of commercial areas, government and educational sites, and information services much in the same way that they currently view web pages.”"

Reports state that Microsoft is commissioning photographers to take millions of photos of urban landscapes from planes, vans and motorbikes. Presumably they will use their own software, Photosynth to stitch these all together. This appears to be an attempt to keep up with Google Earth’s developments.”

Expert Visual Effects Training Anywhere, Anytime

HOLLYWOOD, CA, November 17, 2006, — Gnomon School of Visual Effects has launched an online division for expert training anytime, anywhere. Beginning in January 2007, courses focused on the development of the skills needed to do digital effects, animation and game development taught by industry professionals will now be available to anyone in the world with high-speed internet access. We can’t very well pick up the school and move it elsewhere. But, through the internet we can bring our extraordinary instructors and professional curriculum to anyone anywhere in the world.”

Individuals who sign up for Gnomon Online courses will have access to 15 to 30 hours of pre-recorded video instruction, project assignments designed to hone the skills needed in production and individual feedback on homework from a working production professional. Courses are offered on a quarterly basis; four terms per year. Each week of the term the appropriate three-hour lecture is made accessible. Lectures are delivered at 9060 x 540 resolution and may be viewed 24/7. Industry professionals critique all uploaded homework.

All Gnomon Online instructors are professionals in the entertainment industries with a minimum of three years production experience, who teach within their area of expertise. Classes are geared towards teaching the tools and techniques actually used in digital production.
