iPhone4発売の前にiPhone OS あらため iOS の最新版 iOS 4がリリースされました。
対応端末はiPhone 3GS・3G・iPod touchの3つですが、マルチタスクなどの機能は3Gでは使用できないなど、端末ごとに一部機能の制限があります。アップグレードには最新版のiTunesが必要です。

This update produces file sizes that are much smaller than previous versions. QuadriSpace also offers a polygon reduction tool that can further reduce the size of 3D models, by as much as 50%-70%.”

By scanning in real time, the target object can be moved during scanning and display the image of the surface being scanned. The result is much more realistic scenes than what we see now with raster graphics in 3D games and computer-animated movies. Until recently it was thought that because of the sheer amount of processing power that it takes to determine the correct behavior of the billions of beams of light that can illuminate a scene, ray tracing would never be possible for real-time 3D rendering on standard PC hardware.
Scientific American reports that Intel, the University of Texas and Saarland University are working on making this a reality by improvements in software and hardware to speed up ray tracing by factors of 10″

Version 2.42 has a number of new features, sparked by the development team during movie production: completely revised render pipeline, improved memory management, vector-based blurring, and new node editor. Without having looked at it yet, I can only hope they have also improved the interface, as it can be a difficult program to learn and use.”
私の大好きなLightwaveですが、バージョン8.2が2005年1月下旬から2月下旬のリリースされる予定です。Lightwave[8]ユーザーは無償でアップデートできます。
新たにUVマップのサブパッチ補間や、新しいUV編集ツール、アンチエリアシングの新モード、IKブースターのゴースト表示など、いくつかの新機能が用意されています。
アンチエイリアスの新モードは結構良さ気です。アンチエイリアス処理が早くなって(処理方法は全く違った感じなので単に早くなるだけではありませんが)レンダリング時間が減るのはうれしいですね。
2004/12/21、maxからエクスポートしたファイルをリアルタイムレンダリングするアプリケーションVR4MAXが Tree C Technologyによりアップデート(v4.10→v4.11)されました。

以下が変更点です。
・ダイアログを開いたときに選択オブジェクトのコンストレイントの状態にあわせてラジオボタンが切り替わるようになった
・選択オブジェクトが変わったらダイアログの状態も変わるようになった
・編集可能ポリゴンではないオブジェクトを選択してラジオボタンを切り替えるとエラーが起こるバグの修正
レンダラープラグインのfinalRenderがStage1 SP2BからSP2Dにアップデートしました。詳しい変更点は読むことができませんでしたが、詳しい内容はこちらに書かれています。
finalRender Stage-1 ユーザーはフリーでアップグレードできるようです。
