Learn how to make your very own Transformers – Digital-Tutors has released the first volumes of the highly anticipated Transforming Robot Production Pipeline.

These volumes cover the initial concept and design and the modelling and texturing of the truck, which will eventually transform and composite into live-action footage with the release of new training content in April.

The Foundry announced that they have begun shipping HIERO, their shot management, conform and review tool for VFX. The company announced HIERO last year at IBC and this timeline centric application fills a gap for the shot-based NUKE in post. The goal of the software is conform a sequence from offline, export shots for vfx, and then allow one to review shots in context of the timeline.

VizPeople has released six new free furniture models for use in commercial visualisation work.

The models of sofas, which are available in MAX format and are compatible with V-Ray, complement a set of six armchairs the company released last year.

3月11日より、アクトビラは東日本大震災を受けて北陸地方に避難している福島県南相馬市の市民を対象に提供していた「南相馬チャンネル」の視聴対象地域を拡大し、全国に避難している被災者を対象に無償配信を開始することになりました。

「南相馬チャンネル」は、仮設住宅や避難所などを対象に、南相馬市と「南相馬チャンネル」北陸地域映像提供実験支援協議会、放送システム開発等を行なうヨーズマーらが提供する情報配信サービス。福島県が今、抱えている問題を伝えてたいです。

3月9日、米Sony Entertainment Network(SEN)は PlayStation Vita向けに、定額制音楽配信サービスの「Music Unlimited」を開始すると発表しました。

「Music Unlimited」は月額課金型の音楽配信サービスで、1つのプレーヤーだけでなく、PCやテレビ、PlayStation 3、ウォークマン、SonyTabletなどの様々な機器で大量の音楽が楽しめるのが特徴です。現在はオーストラリア、デンマーク、フィンランド、フランス、ドイツ、イタリア、英国、米国などの13カ国で展開されており、日本ではまだとのこと。日本で言う Sony の音楽配信サービス Mora みたいなものになるのでしょうか。

Houdini 12

Developer PROFACTOR has released a public beta of ReconstructMe, its software for using scan data recorded using Microsoft’s Kinect games peripheral to reconstruct 3D objects. Users can either rotate objects in front of the sensor or move the Kinect itself around the scannned object, and ReconstructMe will automatically separate it from the background.

The models generated can be exported in either OBJ or STL formats.

IKinema has released an update to its mocap plugin for Maya, newly rechristened IKinema Action 2.

One of the unique selling points of the plugin is that it enables users to stream mocap data directly into Maya rather than bringing it in via MotionBuilder. Action is compatible with Vicon and Xsens mocap systems.

LGから55インチの有機ELテレビが発表されたのはまだ記憶に新しいかと思いますが、SAMSUNGからも同じく55インチの有機ELテレビが発表されました。
型番等はまだ公開されていませんが、パネルについてはLGの白色OLEDベースのものに対して、SAMSUNGはRGBサブピクセルの「スーパー有機EL」を採用している模様です。

2012年の後期に発売予定で、価格はまだ未定です。
有機ELディスプレイについては韓国メーカーからの動きがかなり強い現状ですが、日本メーカーの動向にも注目が集まります。

Less than a month after releasing Zbrush 4R2b, Pixologic has announced the planned release of Zbrush 4R3! The new version will expand on the features released in previous versions and include new features such as:

2月16日に、NTTドコモ と mmbi はスマートフォン向け放送「NOTTV」(ノッティーヴィー)の開局と、これに対応した新スマートフォン/タブレット端末を発表する記者会見を開催しました。

「NOTTV」は4月より開局され、3チャンネルのリアルタイム視聴ができ、蓄積型放送が楽しめてしまえるのが特徴。双方向番組や、ソーシャルメディアを組み合わせた番組などを放送する予定とのこと。BeeTV とは違ったまた大きな放送局が登場しますね。

The p3d.in team has launched its self-titled online model display service in open beta.

P3d.in enables users to upload models to the site in OBJ format and view them interactively through any web browser that supports WebGL. Models can currently be viewed in wireframe, flat-shaded or composite modes, with further shaders and support for textures currently in development.

Users can then invite friends or clients to view the assets privately; or embed the HTML viewing code in their own site. Since the system is WebGL-based, no special plugins are required to view the models.

CG Channel has an interview with the CEO and CSO of DAZ 3D on the reasons behind their offering of three of their software DAZ Studio 4 Pro, Bryce 7 Pro and Hexagon 2.5 (worth $800) for free until the end of February.

Excerpt:
According to co-founder Dan Farr, now DAZ’s Chief Strategy Officer, a key factor was the desire to expand its user base. Although DAZ’s software is often labelled ‘for hobbyists only’, in fact, over 20% of its users are graphics professionals: a figure the developer aims to grow.

″We could have played things safer and continued selling into the same market, but we chose not to do that,″ Farr told CG Channel. ″We think that what we have to offer is of interest to the Photoshop and Corel [professional illustration] community.″

Professional 3D artists are another target market, according to company CEO Jim Thornton, who took over in the role from Farr last November. By making its software accessible to the Pixologic and Autodesk user communities, DAZ aims to foster the creation of high-quality assets for its online marketplace: the company’s primary source of revenue. ″Our focus is great content,″ he said.

2月9日(米国時間)、米Googleは自社ブランドの家庭向け無線オーディオ機器を開発中とのことを、Wall Street Journalから伝えられました。

Android搭載のこの機器は、Googleのオンラインストアの音楽を、家庭内の無線スピーカーでストリーミングするものになるとのこと。Android端末を持っているユーザーが増えつつある影響なのでしょうか。楽しみですね。

ニワンゴは、動画コミュニティサービス「ニコニコ動画(原宿)」のニコニコ生放送専用の配信ツール「Niconico Live Encoder」の提供を開始しました。

ニコニコ生放送の「ユーザー生放送」を簡単に高画質で配信できる専用ツール。このツールの特徴としまして、生放送配信エンジン「XSplit White Label Toolkit」をベースにニコニコ生放送向けのインターフェースを追加しております。また、このソフトは無償で提供されていつのも、特徴の1つです。

しかし、生放送をするにはプレミアム会員の契約をする必要があるので、そこは要注意です!!

2月8日より、アイ・オー・データ機器は「ニコニコ実況」サービスに対応した、PC用フルセグ/ワンセグチューナ「GV-TV100」のWindows用ソフトウェアをバージョンアップしました。

今回のバージョンは、要望の多かった録画番組でのコメント付き再生機能が実装され、ニコニコ実況モードのテレ玉・tvk・チバテレビへの対応もされています。

関東のケーブルテレビ局に対応しているのが、また面白いところですよね。

Maide has released CadRemote, a new app enabling users to navigate 3D software via their iPhones.
CadRemote forms a sister product to Maide’s iPad app, recently updated and renamed CadControl.

Excerpt from Maide’s blog:
The iPhone will connect to all the same programs the iPad would connect with (Solidworks, Sketchup, Maya, 3DS Max, and Rhino). You can now use the iPhone and iPod to navigate 3D models, pull renders, and sketch over top of the main screen. This is great when you’re doing creative sessions with someone else, because you can draw on their screen. We’ve modelled the multi-control aspect of the app after a “pass the mic” system when multiple people are connected, so when someone is controlling the model, other people are blocked until he/she is finished.
