turlif 投稿 "Ray tracing uses standard optics equations to calculate paths that light takes in a scene. The result is much more realistic scenes than what we see now with raster graphics in 3D games and computer-animated movies. Until recently it was thought that because of the sheer amount of processing power that it takes to determine the correct behavior of the billions of beams of light that can illuminate a scene, ray tracing would never be possible for real-time 3D rendering on standard PC hardware.

Scientific American reports that Intel, the University of Texas and Saarland University are working on making this a reality by improvements in software and hardware to speed up ray tracing by factors of 10"
